Abstract

Onychiuridae Family from Poduromorpha order in class of Collembola are soil-dwelling species whit no pigmentation, ommatidium, and furca. These characters make them problematic for morphological identification. Using molecular markers as a complementary method can simplify species identification. Only 34 species belonging to 14 genera have been introduced from this family and no molecular data have been recorded in the country. The present study was conducted to perfome molecular analysis of some species collected from Gilan and Isfahan provinces, using a part of the mitochondrial gene (COI). As the results, 4 genera and 6 species belonging to the subfamily Onychiurinae of the family Onychiuridae were identified based on molecular data and the gene of the species was registered in NCBI. The results showed that this gene was well able to identify the species of the family Onychiuridae. The monophyletic status of the studied genera was confirmed by molecular data. Also, the morphological features used in the separation of the studied genera of this family were confirmed by the gene. Consequently, the identification key of the species reported from this family in Iran is provided.
